For a company dealing with thousands of years of traditional culture, City Heritage is very young. Design Inspiration and sources:

The  designs  utilized  in  the creations of   City  Heritage  products  are  sourced   from traditional    arts,   architecture,   crafts,   textiles,   carvings,   embroidery,   bead-work, metalwork  and  others. Some of these designs may probably never be created again in their original medium. Yet their art and aesthetics are too valuable to be doomed to extinction.  By  adopting  these  designs and forms,  City Heritage  pays a tribute to the  vision,  artistry   and   master  craftsmanship   of   there  unrecognized,  nameless creators   who  dedicated  their  skills,  patience  and  passion  to  transcend  time and space.  And by offering these products ensures their continuity.

Rasipuram Krishnaswamy Laxman (b. 23-10-1924) is an Indian cartoonist and humorist. He is widely regarded as India's greatest-ever cartoonist and is best known for his creation The Common Man.

Man can be saved from injuring society, as well as himself, only if he sustains his physical existence by physical labour. Able-bodied adults should do all their personal work themselves and may not be served by others, except for proper reasons. But they should, at the same time, remember that service of children, as well as of the disabled, the old and the sick, is a duty incumbent on every person who has the required strength. Keeping in view this object, no labourers are employed in the Ashram, and if at all they are inevitably employed, the dealing with them would not be of an employer-employee.

A Pol House of Historic Ahmedabad

Preserving Health & Heritage in old Ahmedabad Built by Shri Dahyabhai Ijjatram Mehta in 1896 as his residence, this heritage building belongs to his grandchildren Pratimaben, Priyadarshanbhai Mehta and their family. It is a typical 19th century example of traditional living within the walled city of Ahmedabad.

This Building is being used by CHETNA, Centre for Health Education, Training and Nutrition Awareness since 1996, and was restored with the guidance of an architect from "Mandala", Ahmedabad and CRUTA Foundation. This project paved the way for the revitalisation of the walled city of Ahmedabad.

Revival of Ahmedabad's Pride: Chabutaro - bird feeder

Chabutaro "a stone or wooden tower with artistic canopy over it constructed to feed birds" is a salient feature of the ambience of any pol in Ahmedabad. There are nearly 120 of them. Many are in a dilapidated condition and need to be restored for their heritage value.

The architecture of a chabutaro is different from the rest because it contains intricate carvings and complicated interlocking system of wood. Its restoration being one of the activities of conservation, the Heritage Cell of AMC took up the challenge of reconstructing one of the oldest chabutaro located at Karanj near Bhadra Fort.

The Traditional Pol Houses of Ahmedabad - an urban phenomenon - conforms to a general character in their organization and articulation - i.e. narrow frontage representing composite wooden facade and sharing of common walls on longer sides; defined spatial components; bonding timber construction; and densely articulated within confined settlement pattern known as pols - an empirically evolved labyrinths. These characteristics were the product of cultural pattern of time, caste division, male, female equation exigencies of joint family, social, and religious mores as well as contingent to climatic and structural requirement.

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) is a well-known name in the field of Communications Management. The Crafting Creative Communication (CCC) course at MICA flags off with the students taking the Heritage Walk.

MICA believes that there are many building blocks of communication and our Heritage is one of them. There are many facets to it and the Heritage of a city subtly communicates the history of that place. Communication does not always need to be obvious. There can be many layers to it. The serene Swami Narayan Mandir talks to you and so does the narrow lane in the pol. The chabutaras tell you a story and so does the magnificent Jumma Masjid.
The walk makes you look back and reminds you of our rich culture and history. The thought behind every structure in the walled city of Ahmedabad provokes you to think. And if you thought were the concept of rainwater harvesting and air-conditioned homes without electricity came from, it's here!
The Heritage Walk of Ahmedabad is one of its kinds in India. It is the brainchild of Mr. Debashish Nayak, advisor to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The walk aims at preserving the rich heritage, so that it can be passed on the generations to come.
Through posters students have tried to narrate many stories so that the world that exists inside Ahmedabad does not go unnoticed. We wish you a pleasant journey in the old, unexplored city of Ahmedabad. This walk is surely a walk to remember.

Bapalal's Parabdi

Revival of Ahmedabad's Pride: Chabutaro - Bird Feeder

Parabdi - Bird Feeders of Ahemdabad Walled city are unique structures expressing an age old tradition of holistic living where birds are cared for as members of the community.

This is a story of Bapalal Modi who inspired by a saint and touched by the misery of birds in Ahmedabad built a Chabutra - Bird Feeder at Karanj near the Bhadra Fort.

This 137 year old wooden Parabdi was restored by Ahmedabad Heritage Centre of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation with a grant from Smt. Shantaben Motilal Charitable Trust. Renowned Puppeteer Mahipat Kavi wrote and performed the following story of Bapalal through puppets during the inauguration ceremony of the Bird Feeder on 25th November 2007 as part of "Ahmedabad Heritage Festival Celebrating World Heritage Week in India.
